Two arrested for Traer theft, damage

Two Waterloo men have been charged with the attempted theft and damage to a pair of collectable cars and damage to buildings at rural traer.

The pair were arrested by the Tama County Sheriff’s Office on Friday night, June 2, in the 1700 block of T Avenue, rural Traer.

John McCarthy Fitzpatrick, 18, Waterloo, faces charges of 3rd degree burglary, two counts of 1st degree criminal mischief, 2nd degree criminal mischief, 1st degree theft, 2nd degree theft, two counts of attempted 3rd degree burglary and 2nd degree theft.

Suad Covic, 24, Waterloo, is charged with 3rd degree burglary, attempted 3rd degree burglary, two counts of 1st degree criminal mischief, 2nd degree criminal mischief, 1st degree theft and two counts of 2nd degree theft.

Both men are being held in jail on $10,000 cash bonds.

They are accused of causing extensive cosmetic damage to a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro and a 1987 Buick Regal Grand National by getting green paint on both and scratches on the Buick when attempting to jump start it and steal it.

They are also accused of damaging items in the building, attempting to break into a machine shed and taking a Ford pickup with a seed tender attached.

The two were observed by aTama County deputy sheriff in the area where the stolen pick up was found, The incidents occurred sometime between June 1 and 2 according to court records.
