MEMBERS1st Community Credit Union donates $10,000 to Emergency Relief Fund

Special to The

Star-Clipper

MARSHALLTOWN – MEMBERS1st Community Credit Union is donating $10,000 to the Iowa Credit Union Foundation’s new Emergency Relief Fund. Donations will be used to assist Iowans in need during the COVID-19 pandemic, which has caused a major disruption to the state’s economy, the income of many Iowans, and the health of small businesses across the state.

In particular, the Emergency Relief Fund will provide one-time, $500 grants to individual Iowa credit union members experiencing financial hardship due to COVID-19. Additionally, we will fund grants for small businesses and state-wide relief efforts as a collective credit union movement.

“Credit unions were founded on the philosophy of ‘people helping people,’ and this is a very tangible way of putting that philosophy into action,” said Janet Borer, CEO of MEMBERS1st. “We’re proud to join our fellow Iowa credit unions in donating to this fund so we, together, can maximize our impact.”

To date, $500,000 has been committed in toward the establishment of the fund to provide support to individuals, small businesses, and state-wide relief efforts.

Applications and instructions on how to apply became available April 1st at www.iowacreditunionfoundation.org/emergency-relief-fund.

“Founded during the devastating floods of 1993, the Foundation is here to help again in this time of economic uncertainty,” said Jaimie Miller, Executive Direction of ICUF. “We sincerely thank MEMBERS1st Community Credit Union for the generous donation. It will enable us to do more to help vulnerable Iowans and communities across the state.”

If interested in donating to the Emergency Relief Fund, visit www.iowacreditunionfoundation.org. All gifts made through this donation portal will be used for Emergency Relief efforts in response to COVID-19. Should any dollars remain in this fund following the COVID-19 response efforts, they will be used for future disaster relief efforts for Iowans in need.
