Political signs damaged in county

An investigation remains active regarding political sign damage over the weekend.

This incident is the latest in an uptick of calls for political sign destruction in Tama County.

The Tama County Sheriff’s Office has fielded seven calls in the last week and a half according to Chief Deputy Chad Hansen.

Hansen said the calls have been related to President Donald Trump signs however there was also one Dennis Kucera sign in Tama destroyed as well.

On Sunday the Tama County Sheriff’s Dept. released via Facebook a post stating the sheriff’s office took a report at 7:20 a.m. that a large Trump sign was destroyed in Traer.

The reporting party gave dispatch a vehicle description.

The deputy responding to the call saw the vehicle traveling southbound on Hwy 63 north of Toledo.

The vehicle was stopped and the driver who is from the Des Moines area was cited on other charges. The vehicle was also towed.

Hansen said in an email the deputy investigating the case is still sorting out how many signs were damaged and the cost of the damage before he files criminal charges.
