According to a report by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Tama County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at 4:35 a.m. Friday, June 18 from a rural residence seven miles southwest of Traer.

Upon arrival, law enforcement found Ryan Cooper, 42, deceased in what appeared to be a violent death.

An investigation is being conducted by the Tama County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa DCI and the Tama County Attorney’s Office.

An autopsy by the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner on June 20 ruled the death a homicide; and the manner of death to be a gunshot wound.

As of June 22, no arrests had been made in connection to the murder, though officials with Iowa DCI indicated there to be no existential threat to the community following the shooting.

Iowa DCI Special Agent Richard Rahn told the Telegraph Tuesday that investigation into the murder of Ryan Cooper is ongoing and that law enforcement had been conducting a number of interviews, reviewing case facts and utilizing forensic laboratory analysis in the days following the incident.

No additional details from the ongoing investigation were available as of the Telegraph’s press deadline late Wednesday.
