Union’s Ellie Rathe continues to set the pace
Jesup Invitational – Sept. 28
The Union Knights cross country team traveled to the Jesup Golf and Country Club on Tuesday, September 28 for the Jesup Invitational featuring a formidable 26 area teams.
Knights senior Ellie Rathe crossed the finishing line in first place (out of 156 finishers) at 18:57.7 making for another stellar finish for the high flying senior runner. Rathe’s season and personal record currently sits at 18:35.10, according to data posted by Kauder Racing. Behind Rathe in second place was Addison Grady from Hudson High School with a time of 19:16.9.
Rathe’s Union teammate sophomore Lauren Youngblut finished 13th with a time of 20:42.4; freshman Amilia Condon finished 30th with a time of 21:55.1; freshman Lily Lorenzen came in 86th with a time of 24:09.7; while sophomore Sydney Anton finished with a time of 24:42.1, senior Elle Hookham finished with a time 25:32.9, and sophomore Reagan Sorensen finished with a time of 27:08.6.
The Union girls took sixth out of 22 scoring teams with 224 — Denver came in first with 68 points, followed by Jesup (2nd), Center Point-Urbana (3rd), Waverly-Shell Rock (4th), and Hudson (5th).
Waverly-Shell Rock won the boys 5K race out of 28 scoring teams with 107 points. The top finisher for the boys — out of 186 finishers — was Center Point-Urbana’s Eli Larson with a time of 16:14.9.
The top Union boys finisher was freshman Kengo Uchiyama-Hansen with a time of 21:11.6 who came in 143rd, followed closely by sophomore Sam Fehl in 146th place with a time of 21:14.9, and sophomore Wyatt Hoy in 151st place with a time of 21:28:6.
The Union Knights cross country team — along with the North Tama Redhawks — were scheduled to compete this week in the 28-team Dike-New Hartford Wolverine Invitational on Tuesday, October 5 at the Fox Ridge Golf Course in Dike.
Steve Johnson Invitational, Wartburg College – October 2
The North Tama Redhawks cross country team faced 26 other teams while competing in Waverly this past Saturday, October 2 for the Steve Johnson Invitational on the Wartburg College campus.
Osage junior runner Katelyn Johnson took first place out of 148 finishers in the girls race with a time of 18:54.58. North Tama’s Jules Breakenridge was the first Redhawk to cross the finish line with a time of 20:22.1 in ninth place. Jamie Jacobs was next in 59th place with a time of 23:00.93, Olivia Ketter crossed in 85th place with a time of 23:51.43, while Larissa Morrison crossed the finish line with a time of 26:00.11, Daniela Moraru with 27:09.9, Rachel Robinson with 28:22.14, and Andi Dvorak with 30:01.9.
Redhawk runner Grace Lidgett did not finish but had a 900m split of 3:35.30.
Pine Island won the girls race with a score of 128. North Tama girls came in 16th out of 20 scoring teams by breaking a tie with Nodaway Valley by sending seven runners across the finish line to NV’s five.
In the boys 5K, North Tama’s solitary runner Christian Dronebarger crossed the finish line with a time of 21:36.76. The winner of the boys race was Newton’s Jackson Mace-Maynard with a time of 15:52.69.
