The unranked Union Knights lost 21-27 to the Class 2A No. 9 (AP/Week 7) North Fayette Valley TigerHawks Friday night in Union Stadium but they certainly didn’t make it easy for the TigerHawks.

The Knights starting quarterback, senior Grant Behrens led Union’s passing game with 256 yards — 15 of his 29 attempts finding receivers.

Behrens connected with senior Michael Niebergall six times for a total 181 yards plus one touchdown which came about as a result of a 91 yard reception.

Tight end Max Eikamp (four receptions, 14 yards), wide receiver Joren Fisher (one reception, one yard loss), tight end Gibson Purdy (three receptions, 54 yards), and tight end Logan Rosauer (one reception, eight yards) rounded out the Knights passing game.

Behrens led the rushing game as well Friday night with 19 carries across 51 yards and two touchdowns. Fischer carried eight times for 24 yards, Niebergall carried three times for 17 yards, and running back Tyler Wilson carried just once for a one yard gain.

Brock Ruzicka was good for three conversions out of three attempts made; he also attempted one field goal.

Linebacker Dakota Marvets led the Knights defense with eight tackles (six solo). Purdy had six tackles (five solo), while Fisher and Wilson each had five solo tackles. Behrens contributed four solo tackles as did senior defensive back Nolan Miehe. Miehe also had two interceptions against the TigerHawks and 15 return yards.

The Knights recorded 46 tackles total with 14 players having an impact on the defensive line to the TigerHawks 62 team tackles.

This week the Knights — now 3-4 for the season — will finish out regular season play on the road in Waukon where they’ll take on district rival, the Class 2A No. 3 (AP/Week 7) Waukon Indians who are 6-1 for the season.

The Indians beat the Jesup J-Hawks last week 26-14.
