The Clutier American Legion Post 453 and the Legion Auxiliary held their first pancake breakfast/bake sale fundraiser since the pandemic this past Sunday, October 17. Manning the stove flipping pancakes from 8 a.m. to noon was Legion Commander Rich Wiebbecke, but it was a Svoboda family affair at the head of the line with 48-year-member Clair Svoboda seated just inside the door helping folks enter the flag drawing, Clair’s son Shannon Svoboda — a retired 20-year Army veteran — was dishing up eggs, sausages and pancakes to those in line, while Shannon’s young family including his wife Brittany and children Riley, 12, and Lane, 8, were having breakfast at a table just outside the kitchen, in view of their dad. Topping it off, Clair Svoboda’s brother David Svoboda was also in the kitchen wearing a red apron and a big smile. The Legion’s next pancake breakfast is planned for March of 2022. Photos by Ruby F.
