Clutier Legion Auxiliary holds sewing day

The Clutier Legion Auxiliary held a bake sale in conjunction with the Clutier American Legion Post 453’s pancake breakfast on the morning of Sunday, March 20. A wide variety of homemade baked Czech specialties was available for purchase including the ever-popular kolaches as well as multiple types of bread, cookies, and other baked items. –Photo by Soren M. Hora-Machacek Legion Auxiliary #453 held a sewing day on Tuesday, March 8, 2022. The day started at 9:00 a.m. with the following members: Diane C, Linda D, Pauline S, Bev C, Mary S, Veronica P and Collette W. The two special attendees were Rosemary V. and Cyndy B. Cut plastic grocery bags were joined and balled. Sewed material strips for carpet weaving and balled them. Linda had brought a completed sleep mat made from the grocery bags crocheted by Margaret B. to show the members. The mat measures 4′ by 6′. Mats are delivered to Veterans Affairs or Homeless Shelters. Collette W. and Diane C. had delivered 35 lap quilts to IVH in Marshalltown. Had a delicious potluck lunch at noon with everyone bringing a hot dish.

Diane C. reported on the unit’s finances. Veronica P. presented a bill for printing and mailing bake sale letters. Linda D. made a motion to pay the bill, seconded by Mary S.

All present signed a belated birthday card for Helen Sevcik who was 99 on March 1st. Sang Happy Birthday to Veronica. Diane C. did the cemetery memorial for Vera Sevcik with help from Marilyn S.

March 19th will be the 3rd District Auxiliary Spring Conference at Toledo post home beginning at 9:00 a.m. March 22nd will be the Tama Co joint meeting at 7:00 p.m. at the Clutier post home. Discussed what to serve and helpers. March 20th is our bake sale along with the Legion’s pancake breakfast from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Been notified that the Tama County Government Day in April has been canceled. IVH bingo is still a go on April 20th at 1:00 p.m.

No more sewing days until fall. Tuesday, April 5th will have a monthly meeting at 1:30 p.m. Monthly meetings will be in the afternoon not at night from now on.
