Knights earn all-conference awards
Following a 12-11 season, the Union Knights boys basketball team was awarded with three players named to the North Iowa Cedar League East All-Conference teams.
Senior Grant Behrens was named a first team all-conference selection. Behrens finished his season as the Knights’ leading scorer and the fifth most in the conference (329) – averaging 14.30 points per game – and third most rebounds for the team (98). The senior forward/guard also led his team in free throws (60) for a fifth place conference finish.
Senior guard/forward TJ Freeland was named a second team all-conference selection. Freeland finished his season as the Knights’ leading rebounder and fourth most in the conference (183), while also leading his team in steals (67) – finishing second in the conference – and in assists (78) – finishing third in the conference. Freeland was the second highest scorer for the Knights (299) averaging 13 points per game.
Ty Lorenzen was also named a second team all-conference selection. The junior guard led his team in free throw percentage with 75 percent, the second highest in the conference. Lorenzen also finished fourth in the conference for assists (700). Freeland was the third highest scorer for the Knights (238) averaging 10.35 points per game.
The Knights wrapped up their postseason run in the second round of the Class 2A district playoffs, falling to Jesup by a score of 50-70 on February 17. The J-Hawks were eliminated in the state quarterfinals by Rock Valley with a final score of 75-61.
