Clutier hosts joint meeting of Tama County Legions, Auxiliaries

The Tama County Joint American Legion and Auxiliary meeting was held on Tuesday, March 22, at the Clutier American Legion Hall. Ron Busch called the meeting to order. Tama County Legion Commander Moe McWhirter was not able to attend. The meeting opened in regular form. Minutes of the October, 2021 meeting were read and approved. Both the Auxiliary and Legion’s treasurer’s reports were given. President Diane reported on the Third District Auxiliary Conference which was held on March 19 at Toledo.

Things to remember

-Girls State registration needs to be submitted for those attending.

-End of Year Reports for Units are due on April 30 to the County President.

-IVH Spring Carnival will be held on April 13 at 12:45 p.m. – they need volunteers to help take the residents around to the various booths.

-Tama County sponsored Bingo at the IVH will be on April 20. Be there at 1 p.m.

-Merit Award Applications are due April 1 and Unit Data Forms are due April 15.

–Government Day is canceled due to Covid restrictions still in place for the County offices; Third District Junior Auxiliary Conference is also canceled.

Ron Busch gave a report on both the Mid-Winter Convention and the Third District Conference. He encouraged us to get the word out about Oratorical Contests to our high school students as there are scholarship monies available to winners. Ron presented Clutier’s Hora-Machacek Post 453 Commander Richard Wiebbecke with a ribbon for attaining 100% membership for 2021.

Ron and Kennan Seda of the Sons of the American Legion both spoke about the “Wall that Heals” that will be at the Meskwaki School the first week of August. Opening ceremony will be on Thursday morning and closing ceremony on Sunday.

The next County meeting will be at Gladbrook on June 28 and will start at 6:30 p.m. with a potluck followed by the flag disposal ceremony and then the meeting.
