Clutier Auxiliary prepares for Memorial Day

Hora-Machacek Legion Auxiliary #453 held their monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 3, at 1:30 p.m. with six members in attendance. President Veronica opened the meeting in a regular forum. She called the roll call and read last month’s minutes which were approved as read. Treasurer Diane reviewed our unit’s finances.

Diane attended and assisted with bingo at IVH on April 20. 50 residents attended. At this time the Foreign Food Fair is scheduled for July 16. Our unit is asked to furnish 5 dozen kolaches. Tama County Picnic at IVH is to be August 6. We are to furnish 5 lbs. potato salad and 2 pies. Diane reported that there are 17 residents from Tama County at IVH with a total of 400 residents.

‘Thinking of you’ cards were signed and sent to Julia Babinat and Jean Miller. Birthday card signed and sent to Evelyn Caloud. Unit had received a Stepping up for Membership Award in recognition of 75% membership goal reached by December 7, 2021, for the year 2021-2022.

Memorial weekend activities will start on Saturday, May 28, at 9 a.m. Legionnaires and Auxiliary members will decorate the Veteran’s graves and Auxiliary member’s graves at the four local cemeteries. Any help will be greatly appreciated to assist in placing the crosses and trellises. Monday, May 30, Legionnaires and Auxiliary members gather at 7:30 a.m. for coffee at the hall. Flag raising ceremony at 8:30 a.m. at the Legion hall. Travel to Clutier Cemetery for Memorial Service at 8:45 a.m., to Oneida Cemetery at 9 a.m., to Holy Trinity Cemetery at 9:15 a.m. and to St. Vaclav Cemetery at 9:45 a.m. and ending back at the hall.

Linda won the door prize. June meeting will be June 7, at 1:30 p.m. Will have election of officers. Anyone interested in an office please attend the meeting or notify Veronica or Diane. Linda was hostess and served chicken salad sandwiches and macaroni salad. After lunch the ladies cleaned and sorted the crosses and trellises for each cemetery.
