Traer Legion Auxiliary kickoff is Oct. 11

Traer American Legion Auxilliary Unit # 142 had a busy summer.

-June 28 was the County Meeting, potluck and flag disposal in Gladbrook. Kathy Manful and Arlene Schmidt accompanied Donna Kersten.

-July 8 was the Red Cross Blood Drive where 38 units were collected. Schmidt worked the canteen with the help of Sharon Finzen, Donna Wolfgram, Verona Staker and Kersten.

-July 8 Also found the Auxiliary preparing for the Dinsdale Reunion on July 9. Many hands made it a success for 74 attendees.

-July 16 was the Iowa Veterans Home Foreign Food Fair. Diane Owens made the kolaches. Members helped the residents with the trays as most were in wheel chairs. The Auxiliary served about 65. They loved the kolaches.

-July 18 Karen Podhajsky, Owens, Manful and Carol Stansberry helped at the Legion Steak Fry.

-Aug. 6 found the Unit at the IVH Tama County Picnic. Manful provided rhubarb pies. Marilyn Bauch, Kay Klavido, Jackie McCully, Tomomi McWhirter provided fruit for the fresh fruit bowl. Verona Staker provided tomatoes. Dorothy Thorn, Marquerite Hulme, Finzen, Wolfgram and Kersten assisted the residents with the trays. The Auxiliary served 82 very appreciative residents.

The next meeting is at 6 p.m. on Oct. 11. This will be the membership kickoff.
