The Traer Fire Department served up hundreds of piping hot flapjacks, fluffy scrambled eggs, and filling sausage patties to members of the public this past Sunday, October 3 in the downtown fire station as part of the department’s annual Pancake Breakfast fundraiser. The breakfast was held as a kickoff to Fire Prevention Week which takes place October 9-13 this year. Posters created by North Tama Elementary students lined the walls of the station featuring the week’s 2022 theme –‘Fire Won’t Wait. Plan Your Escape.’ Marvin Boldt, a 49-year member of Traer Fire, was seated at a small table just inside the station’s front doors, welcoming folks to the fundraiser. Boldt said by 9:30 a.m., roughly 130 people had been through the breakfast line which put the department on track to serve about 300 people as in years past. Later in the week on Thursday, North Tama students were scheduled to receive rides on a Traer Fire engine and tour the fire station as part of Fire Prevention Week.
