Hora-Machacek holds sewing day

Hora-Machacek #453 Legion Auxiliary met on Tuesday, March 7, at the post home. The day began at 9 a.m. sewing lap quilt tops, middle and back together. We have sewed 44 lap quilts. All that is left to do is to tie them, which a couple of members will be doing at home. After completion, they will be distributed between the VA clinic in Waterloo and VA Hospital in Iowa City. The ladies in attendance were Linda D, Collette W, Marilyn S, Diane C, Pauline S, and Veronica P. Diane C. had delivered 53 lbs. of rag balls for rug weaving to IVH in Marshalltown.

Delicious potluck was enjoyed at noon. President Veronica conducted the monthly meeting after lunch clean up. Julia B. joined us. Veronica called the roll and read last month’s minutes which were approved as read. Treasurer Diane gave the unit’s financial report. Veronica presented a bill for printing bake sale letters and postage to mail them. Linda D. made a motion to pay her bill and seconded by Pauline S. Motion carried.

Due to National raising their dues, we discussed raising our dues for both seniors and juniors. A motion was made by Collette W. and seconded by Marilyn S. to raise our dues to keep abreast with the monies that we send in for each member. This will take effect for the 2023/24 year.

Birthday cards were signed for Helen Sevcik and Marcella Caslavka and mailed. Happy Birthday was sung to Veronica P. Foreign Food Fair has been moved to September.
