Union/North Tama girls soccer took on Cedar Valley Christian on the road last Thursday night, coming away with a season opening win 4-0 over the Huskies courtesy of a hat trick by junior Molly Grote and a single from sophomore Avery Knoop.
The team – playing this season with a new head coach, John Simon – looks to be as powerful and as determined as ever based on the first game.
Knoop and Grote led the offense for the Knights with Grote scoring three goals and notching one assist and four shots on goal, while Knoop scored once and had five shots on goal. Juniors Molly Clark and Charlie Keegan also had one shot on the goal a piece.
Returning keeper Dacey Powell made three saves during the game.
The Knights were 1-0 heading into the week following the cancelation of their Friday, March 31 game against Regina Catholic in Iowa City due to the severe weather outbreak.
Union/North Tama was set to play Waverly-Shell Rock on Tuesday of this week at home in La Porte City but that game was also canceled due to a severe weather outbreak and rescheduled to next week Monday at 7:20 p.m. following the boys JV game. The team was also set to face Dubuque Hemstead on the road this week Thursday (April 6).
