Hora-Machacek holds June meeting

CLUTIER – Six members of the Hora-Machacek Legion Auxiliary held their monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 6 at the Clutier post home at 1:30 p.m. The flags were already in place so President Veronica opened the meeting. Chaplain Mary said prayer and the vacant chair. Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and the Preamble to the Constitution of the Legion Auxiliary. Veronica called the roll and read May’s minutes which were approved as read.

Treasurer Diane reviewed our finances. Diane presented a bill for mailing dues increase letters to members. Linda D. made a motion to pay the bill, seconded by Collette W, motion carried. Filled out the annual poppy report and mailed to the Dept and the officers’ list for 2023-24 was also mailed.

On May 23 Pauline, Diane, Collette, and Mary cleaned and sorted the crosses and trellises. On Saturday, May 27 Diane, Pauline, Collette, and Carolyn placed the crosses on veterans’ graves and trellises on Auxiliary members’ graves at our local cemeteries. On Monday, May 29 members were at the various cemeteries to observe the Legionnaires tribute to deceased veterans.

Tama County joint meeting will be at the Toledo post home on Tuesday, June 27. Potluck at 6:30 p.m. followed by flag disposal ceremony and the meeting. Info will be coming for the Tama County picnic at IVH on August 5.

Courtney Chambers, our 2022 girl stater, received a 3rd district Merit Award. Linda D. won the door prize. There will be no July meeting so the next meeting will be Tuesday, August 1 at 1:30 p.m. Mary said the closing prayer and Pauline retired the colors. Diane was hostess and served egg salad sandwiches and rhubarb cake.
