DYSART — The new Main Street Pocket Park in downtown Dysart is quickly nearing completion after construction began roughly three weeks ago.
The park is situated on a city-owned sliver of land sandwiched between the public library and Eikamp Insurance Agency (314 Main Street) on the east side of the street in what was previously a mostly empty pocket of space.
Vision Dysart has been working on the project in some capacity since April of 2021.
The space is slated to be “an oasis for weary shoppers, a dining and meeting area or a stage for performances,” according to Vision Dysart’s design documents for the new park.
Over the course of the last several weeks, contractors have poured the cement pad for the park, and built and installed the covered cedar canopy. Four sets of metal cafe tables and chairs in a happy shade of green were arranged on the patio last week as well.
Catharine Wieck with Vision Dysart told the Telegraph the park should be completed by the end of this week or by early next week.
“The picture panels of old time Dysart, the planters, and plants still need to be installed,” Wieck said.
Solar-powered lighting and free WiFi are also yet to be installed.
Full funding for the pocket park was secured this past winter through a mix of grants, donations, and Vision Dysart funds.
The project’s total budget was around $28,500 including $18,500 for the structure. No public funds were dedicated to the project, however, the city of Dysart donated the land and is also providing WiFi free of charge for the park.
