Hora-Machacek Auxiliary holds August meeting

Hora-Mackacek Legion Auxiliary #453 met on Tuesday, August 1 at the Clutier post home. Seven members were in attendance and Ruby M. with her 3 children stopped in briefly. President Veronica called the meeting to order and the colors were already in place. Mary S. said prayer and the vacant chair. Moment of silence was observed in memory of our deceased members, especially Marlus S. The group said the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and the Preamble to the Constitution of the Auxiliary.

Veronica called the roll and read June’s minutes which were approved as read. Treasurer Diane reported on our finances. Gravesite memorial was conducted by Diane C. assisted by Marilyn S. for Marlus S.

Veronica read the Tama County Joint meeting minutes from June 27. It was agreed to continue the Government Day that is held each April for high school students. Diane reported about the IVH bingo that was in April and will be changing the amount of prizes being given out. IVH picnic is August 5 and Foreign Food Fair at IVH is Sept 9. Next joint meeting will be October 24 at Traer. There will be a memorial service so will send deceased Legion and Auxiliary members names from the past year to Lorraine Vileta.

Our unit is to provide a roaster of four gallons of home grown sweet corn and two pies for the IVH picnic. After the meeting the ladies shucked fresh corn for Diane who will prepare the corn.

It was reported that we are almost 1/2 way to meeting membership goals for the upcoming year. Marcella C. won the door prize. Sang Happy Birthday to Pauline S. Our Sept meeting will be on the 5th at 1:30 p.m. Will begin sewing in October. Chaplain Mary said closing prayer, and Pauline retired the colors. Hostess was Collette W. and she served a dessert of angel food cake, pudding and strawberries.
