Hora-Machacek holds October sewing day

Hora-Machacek Legion Auxiliary held a sewing day on Tuesday, October 3, at the post home in Clutier. The day began at 9am with the following in attendance: Linda D, Mary S, Pauline S, Collette W, Veronica P, Deb K, Cyndy B, and Rosemary V. They joined and balled plastic bags to be crochet into sleep mats, sewed fabric strips and balled which IVH will weave into rugs, cut middle and backs for lap quilts and sewed squares into lap quilt. The group enjoyed fellowship while working and a potluck lunch at noon.

President Veronica conducted the monthly meeting in the afternoon. She called the roll and read August’s minutes which were approved as read. Treasurer Diane had given her report to Veronica so she reviewed it with the members. Linda D. made a motion seconded by Mary S. to pay Diane’s bill of which was for corn, butter and 2 pies for IVH picnic. Motion carried. Filled out poppy order. Collette W. talked about a local quilt group that got together on Sept 23, 24,and 25 at the hall. Each person worked on her own project but exchanged ideas and enjoyed fellowship.

Reviewed email from County President Diane asking if there is interest in members going to IVH to see them weave rugs and answer was yes. Another question was asked if we should continue IVH picnic and members said yes. Tama County joint meeting will be October 24th at 7pm at Traer post home. Memorial service will be held for the past year’s deceased Legion and Auxiliary members.

Wednesday, November 8 the unit will be having a sewing day beginning at 9am with potluck lunch at noon. Monthly meeting in the afternoon. Anyone is welcome to come and assist and especially enjoy fellowship. There are things to do besides sewing.
