TRAER – On Oct. 10 the Auxiliary met for their Membership Meeting at the Memorial Building with Diane Owens, Marguerite Hulme, Sharon Finzen and Arlene Schmidt serving a delicious dinner and Tomomi McWhirter providing dinner music.

Speakers included Traer Mayor Peter Holden who gave an update on Traer’s City Government, while Kennan Seda explained about the program the Auxiliary is sponsoring on Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Traer Library (Pearl Harbor Day) with grant funding from Humanities Iowa and the State Historical Society. The program, “From the Battlefront to the Homefront, Iowa Broadcasters Go to War,” is presented by Jeff Stein of KXEL. Jeff is a 1989 graduate of Toledo, Iowa.

New members were welcomed by President Donna Kersten with pins including Judy Smolek, Dorothy Thorne, Edith Greiner, Marguerite Hulme, Jacqueline McCully, and Nancy Tudor-Caviness.

On October 16, Kathie Manfull, Judy Zmolek, Bridgette Barthelmes and Arlene Schmidt prepared and served a wonderful supper to the Legion at their monthly meeting.

On November 16, the Auxiliary met at the Memorial Building with delightful desserts provided by Eddie Greiner and Kay Klavido. The charter was draped in honor of member Sharlene Hoeg who passed away in October.

Plans were made for making Valentines at Arlene Schmidt’s home on Jan. 9 at 1 p.m. for our veterans at Sunrise Hill and Iowa Veterans Home; Canteen at the Legion’s Red Cross Blood Drive Dec. 7 from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Memorial Bldg; the Christmas Cheer project December 16, at 8 bringing Christmas cheer to local residents in need of a special food gift of cheer; and planning a Valentine party at Sunrise Hill in February.
