Season’s greetings!

Dysart, Traer celebrate the most wonderful time of the year

Someone’s happy to meet Santa! Thirteen-month-old Jack Condon is all smiles for the camera while meeting Santa and Mrs. Claus (aka Drew and Peg Hennings) last Saturday evening at the Dysart Community Building as part of Club Dysart’s annual Supper with Santa event. PHOTO BY RUBY F. MCALLISTER
Tama County Deputy Casey Schmidt and K-9 Deputy Tyson take part in Traer’s annual Lighted Holiday Parade last Friday along Second Street near the library. While the inflatable Santa decoration Deputy Schmidt had placed on the roof of the cruiser was decidedly flat in this photograph (much to Schmidt’s disappointment), it was at full strength earlier in the evening. Santa and Mrs. Claus – who also answer to Drew and Peg Hennings – smile for a photograph with Everett Schmidt, 4, last Saturday evening at the Dysart Community Building. Just after the photo was snapped, young Mr. Schmidt and his friend/accomplice Forest Sills (not pictured) absconded from the building and headed for the nearby bank for reasons that are as yet unknown, according to local law enforcement, Tama County Deputy Casey Schmidt, who pursued the preschoolers down the sidewalk. The Telegraph has been assured both youngsters remain on the ‘Nice List’ despite their momentary lapse in judgment. PHOTO BY RUBY F. MCALLISTER

The magic of the holidays was in the air last weekend in both Dysart and Traer as each community kicked off the festive season with annual hometown events including the Lighted Holiday Parade in downtown Traer on Friday and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus at the community building in Dysart during Club Dysart/DG Elementary PTO’s annual Supper with Santa event.

The weekend merriment factor was dialed up even more by the immensely talented Union Carolers – a high school a capella group under the direction of vocal music teacher Casey Tecklenburg – who performed both evenings, taking the stage in full dress Friday at the Traer Public Library and then again Saturday in Dysart at the community building. The group will be singing this season at more than 40 events across the Cedar Valley.

Season’s greetings!
