TRAER – The American Legion Auxiliary #142 was pleased to present Jeff Stein and his presentation of his documentary “From the Battlefield to the Homefront, Iowa Broadcasters Go To War” at the Traer Library on Pearl Harbor Day last week Thursday, Dec. 7. More than 50 people were in attendance.

The documentary presented a very interesting and unusual slant on WWII. Through this we were able to see what the radio journalists went through to bring news from the battlefield to the homefront which was before television coverage. The film told of the challenges the reporters faced, doing their jobs relaying information to the waiting audience at home, and at times reassuring them of the safety of Iowans serving thousands of miles away.

This program was funded by the Humanities of Iowa and the State Historical Society, Inc. Special thanks to Kennan Seda for alerting us to this program, and to the library for the use of its facility.

A DVD of Stein’s presentation is available to view/checkout at the Traer Public Library.
