Clutier Legion Auxiliary hosts sewing day
CLUTIER – Hora-Machacek Legion Auxiliary held a sewing day on Tuesday, February 5. Those in attendance were: Diane C, Pauline S, Mary S, Linda D, Marilyn S, Valerie S, Deb K, Collette W, Brenda H, and Veronica P. Day began at 9 a.m. Several ladies attached back, middle and lap quilt tops together and stitched the edges together. One lady sewed together blocks for a quilt top. Some ladies cut and balled plastic grocery bags. Everyone enjoyed the soup, sandwich, and salad lunch.
President Veronica conducted the monthly meeting at 1 p.m. Mary S. said prayer and the vacant chair. Veronica called the roll and read last month’s minutes which were approved as read. Treasurer Diane reported on our finances. Marilyn presented a bill for material for our quilt making. Collette presented a bill for muslin for quilt backing and a tote. Linda made a motion to pay the bills seconded by Pauline. Motion carried. Collette reported that the quilters group donated paper products (plates, cups, and silverware) to us. Thank you very much.
On January 18, Marilyn and Diane went to IVH to join others to see rug weaving. The group toured the chapel, library, ceramic-making room, and the rug weaving area. Currently, there are no IVH residents who can work the loom, so no one is making rugs. They also crochet rugs. Collette took 17 lap quilts to the VA Hospital in Iowa City. She is going to monogram (Clutier Legion Auxiliary) on future lap quilts.
March 5 is our next sewing and meeting day beginning at 9 a.m. Potluck at noon. Anyone is welcome to come enjoy fellowship and assist with the different projects. Upcoming events are the Food Fair at IVH on March 9. Need volunteers to assist veterans through the food line. We will be having a bake sale on March 17 which is the same day as Legion’s pancake breakfast. County meeting will be March 26 at the Clutier post home beginning at 1:30 p.m. Mary S. said prayer and the meeting was adjourned.
