LA PORTE CITY – Union Knights boys basketball head coach Corey Lorenzen was recently named NICL East Coach of the Year.

The 2023-24 season was Lorenzen’s final season as a member of the Knights coaching staff. He coached the team this year to an 11-12 record overall and second in the conference behind Jesup.

In the postseason, the Knights beat Oelwein 61-49 in the first round before narrowly losing to MFL MarMac 64-62 in the second round.

In addition to Lorenzen’s recognition, five Knights were named to NICL East All Conference teams including Jackson Anderson and Caden Sorensen who both earned first team honors.

Anderson, a senior, led the Knights this season with 332 points including 33 3-pointers, 98 rebounds, 51 assists, 21 steals, and two blocks, while his sophomore teammate Sorensen notched 323 points including 49 3-pointers, 67 rebounds, 89 assists, 46 steals, and a block.

Senior Logan Rosauer – who led the Knights’ defense this season – received a second team designation for his efforts which included 155 points, 205 rebounds, 30 assists, 23 steals, and 55 blocks.

In Class 2A, Rosauer was No. 1 in field goal percentage with 70.6%.

Rounding out the quintet, brothers Mason and Cameron Mullen both earned honorable mention.
