Hora-Machacek Auxiliary holds sewing day and meeting

Members of the Hora-Machacek Legion Auxiliary pictured during the unit’s sewing day held on April 2. These ladies have helped sew 108 lap quilts for the Iowa Veterans Clinic and Hospital since last October. They also worked on cutting and rolling plastic bags to be used for making mats for the homeless. CLUTIER – Hora-Machacek Legion Auxiliary held a sewing day on Tuesday, April 2, beginning at 9 a.m. Those attending were: Diane C, Collette W, Pauline S, Marilyn S, Linda D, Brenda H, Valerie S, Denise S, Deb K, Cyndy B, Rosemary V, and Veronica P. Sewing lap quilts together and cutting grocery bags. Received thank you for 32 lap quilts that Collette had delivered to VA hospital in Iowa City. With the quilts that will be finished and delivered, we did a total of 108 this sewing session. A big thank you to our guest sewing ladies. Enjoyed having them and fellowship. Will begin sewing in the fall possibly in October. Enjoyed a delicious noon potluck in honor of our quest sewing ladies.

Julia B. joined us for our monthly meeting at 1 p.m. President Veronica conducted the meeting. She called the roll and read last month’s minutes which were approved. Our unit greatly appreciates the donated food and monetary amounts to our bake sale. It was a huge success. Bake sale workers were: Linda D, Bev C, Mary S, Diane C, Collette W, and Veronica P.

Treasurer Diane reviewed our finances. Bills presented for payment was 1/2 of bake sale paper ad to Legion, Diane for bread, meat and cheese for county meeting, Collette for plain fabric, and Linda for 3 dozen kolaches for Foreign Food Fair. Julia B. made a motion to pay the bills and seconded by Pauline S. Motion carried.

Diane, Tama County president reviewed the joint meeting that was March 26 at the Clutier post home. There were 3 men and 14 women in attendance. Next County meeting is June 25 at Elberon post home. Will be a potluck lunch at noon followed by flag disposal and then a meeting. The Foreign Food Fair at IVH was March 9. Diane C. and Linda D. attended from our unit and took three dozen kolaches. Tama County Government Day is April 10 at the Reining Center in Toledo. Julia B. will make the four dozen cookies our unit must furnish. At this time 160 students are coming. Special program will be Luke Dvorak from Tama Co Sheriff’s Dept. about human trafficking. April 17 is IVH bingo sponsored by Tama County Legion and Auxiliary at 2 p.m. Be at IVH by 1:30 p.m. April 20 is the IVH Spring Carnival at 1 p.m.

Diane reviewed the members as to the volunteer hours for our veterans that each member did for the impact report. Cutting and sewing lap quilts, cutting grocery bags and attending functions at IVH. Happy birthday was sung to Julia B. and Linda D. May 7 we will have a unit meeting at 1:30 p.m.
