DYSART – The Dysart Chamber of Commerce recently cut another ribbon on a new downtown business – AB Customs, a kitchen and bath fabrication shop owned and operated by Union Class of 1999 alumnus Aaron Bergmeier and his family.

On Saturday, Dec. 6, AB Customs held a combination open house and ribbon-cutting inside their new showroom/workshop located at 311 Main Street, the former location of Soule Shop & Spa which relocated earlier this year.

After graduating from Union, Bergmeier earned his drafting degree from Hawkeye Community College before going to work for a “solid surface countertop manufacturer,” he told the newspaper, where he gained experience in the fabrication of custom countertops. For the last 25 years, he has worked in the construction business, specializing in remodeling and weatherization services. He started AB Construction in La Porte City over 20 years ago, but is now focusing full-time on AB Customs alongside his son Aiden Bergmeier and his mother Ranae Dolleslager who manages the office while also assisting with design.

For the last five years, Bergmeier has worked to develop and finetune a new line of bathroom shower walls and counter services fabricated from a customizable epoxy-infused PVC surface that is currently patent-pending. The surfaces are “infused with four layers of epoxy that look like stone or marble,” Bergmeier explained, “but at an affordable price.” The product is both mold and mildew resistant, he added, using no wood or foam products on the surface. This new product is what powers AB Customs which turns out a large variety of surfaces, from countertops to shower/wet areas to residential specialty projects, including home bars.

When asked how the new shop was working out, Bergmeier called it “the perfect location” due to the building’s large back workshop – spacious enough to accommodate AB Customs’ entire process. In addition to fabrication, the business is also a start-to-finish contractor, providing assistance with design (hardware, colors, etc.), removal of old surfaces (including mold remediation), and installation.

“We are here to make your vision come to life!” Bergmeier said.
