Dr. Alford Farnham, a local doctor and surgeon, built the hospital on Main Street in 1915. The main floor consisted of a reception room, doctor’s office and exam rooms. The second floor had an operating room, kitchen and patient rooms. The hospital was open to other doctors in the area as well. The hospital opened in early 1916, and the first surgery was an operation for appendicitis. When roads were paved, more operations were performed in larger hospitals in Waterloo. In 1943, the building was sold and converted to apartments.
