Hora-Machacek Unit 453 gets ready for Memorial Day

CLUTIER – The Clutier unit of the American Legion Auxiliary met on May 5 at 10 a.m. and worked on the trellises and crosses for Memorial Day. Many needed new poppies as the old ones were faded. Those helping were Diane Caloud, Collette Wiebbecke, Linda Dvorak, Julia and Margaret Babinat. At noon we had a potluck lunch.

At 1:30, Vice-President Linda called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and roll call taken. Minutes of the April meeting were read, corrected and approved. The Treasurer’s report was given and approved. Bills were presented and paid.

Diane gave a report on Gov’t Day held April 8 at Toledo. Workers were Collette Wiebbecke and Deb Kupka; they also provided cookies. Diane also reported on the IVH Bingo held April 15. Diane and Linda attended the IVH Volunteer Luncheon on April 22. The Tama County Auxiliary received a Certificate of Service Award.

Please note that we need volunteers to help place trellises and crosses on the cemeteries on Saturday, May 23. You do not have to be a member to help. We will meet at the Legion Hall at 9 a.m. to go to the cemeteries. Then on Monday, May 25, the Legion will hold Memorial Day services. Meet at the Legion Hall at 8:15 a.m. if you want to ride along to the cemeteries.

The next meeting will be June 2. We will be going to Grinnell to the Pizza Ranch for lunch and then the meeting will be held following lunch. Please meet at the Legion Hall at 11 a.m. if you would like to ride along. Call Diane or Collette if you have questions.
