‘The Snyders’ Freedom Rockin’ Tour’ coming June 10 to Wieting Theatre
TOLEDO – The Tama County Historical Society will host a program on Iowa’s Freedom Rocks on Wednesday, June 10, at 6:30 p.m. at the Wieting Theatre, 101 S. Church St, Toledo.
Amy Snyder will share the story of her journey to visit and document all 100 of Iowa’s Freedom Rocks, a goal she and her husband Ron — a 40-year Iowa National Guard pilot — set in 2020. Inspired after first seeing a Freedom Rock and meeting artist Ray “Bubba” Sorensen during RAGBRAI in 2013, the couple spent four years traveling the state, capturing selfies at each patriotic mural before completing the project in November 2024. Their photos were later transformed into a commemorative quilt. Through images and stories, Snyder reflects on the art, the veterans honored, and the communities they encountered across Iowa, as well as her experiences seeing Sorensen’s Freedom Rocks in other states.
This event is free and open to the public.
