Schmidt honored by Traer ALA for nearly seven decades of service

TRAER – The Traer American Legion Auxiliary met Tuesday, June 16, with a potluck at the Taylor Park shelter house.
A short meeting was held with the election of officers for the upcoming year, including: President-Donna Kersten; Vice President and Membership Chairperson-Karen Podhajsky; Secretary and Education Chairperson-Marguerite Hulme; Treasurer-Liz Bauch; Historian-Christa Nova; and Chaplin-Zoe Ann Wignall.
The Memorial Day poppy distribution and pillow cleaning project for our community were very successful.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of a beautiful bouquet of artificial patriotic flowers to Arlene Schmidt in honor of 69 very active years in our Auxiliary. She has served faithfully in many capacities including Vice President and then President and Poppy Chairperson.
Upcoming events to note include the Tama County meeting on Tuesday, June 23, in Clutier with the annual disposal of old, worn-out flags; a Red Cross blood drive on Monday, July 13, at the Traer Memorial Building from 12:30-5:30 p.m.; and the Tama County picnic at the Veterans Home in Marshalltown on Aug. 1.
