DYSART – Valerie Raub and Aaron Rosselow’s Crisman Street yard has been awarded the July ‘Blue Ribbon Flowers of the Month’ designation by the Dysart Garden Club. “I’ve been waiting a long time for this!” Raub excitedly told the newspaper when she found out she was chosen for the monthly honor. Located due east of the Dysart United Methodist Church (DUMC) on the corner of Crisman and Iowa streets, Raub and Rosselow’s yard is a symphony of floral delight. In the style of a traditional English cottage garden, perennials and annuals alike seem to pour from almost every nook and cranny. During the newspaper’s visit in early July, a ramble about the oversized lot was full of surprises, including many prairie flowers just beginning to take center stage and a large planting of colorful irises out front. Due to its location on a corner lot and the afternoon-to-evening shade from the church building next door, the yard receives a variety of sun exposure, allowing for myriad plantings. If you’re looking for inspiration this growing season, be sure to check out Raub and Rosselow’s yard just across the street from DUMC’s Oasis Garden.
