TAMA COUNTY – As a new school year begins, families across Tama County are invited to discover the many opportunities available through Tama County 4-H and join one of Iowa’s largest youth development organizations.

Many people know 4-H for livestock projects and county fairs, but today’s 4-H offers much more. Youth can explore interests in science, technology, agriculture, photography, art, cooking, leadership, public speaking, community service, outdoor education, and more. Whether a young person lives on a farm, in town, or anywhere in between, there is a place for them in 4-H.

“4-H helps young people build confidence, develop leadership skills, make new friends, and discover their passions,” Tama County Youth Coordinator Jennifer Hulme said. “Our goal is to help youth learn by doing while creating positive experiences that will benefit them for years to come.”

4-H is open to all youth in kindergarten through 12th grade. Clover Kids, the kindergarten through third-grade program, introduces younger members to hands-on learning and community involvement, while older youth can participate in club meetings, project learning, workshops, camps, leadership opportunities, and county and state events.

One of the greatest strengths of Tama County 4-H is its local club network. Clubs are located throughout the county, making it easy for families to find a group close to home. Active clubs can be found in Traer, Gladbrook, Garwin, Clutier, and Toledo, providing welcoming environments where youth can connect with friends, learn new skills, and become engaged in their communities.

Enrollment for the new 4-H year began Tuesday, Sept. 1, making it the perfect time for families to learn more about what Tama County 4-H has to offer. New members are welcome, and families are encouraged to attend local club meetings to meet current members and volunteers. Registration fee is $40 for 4-12th graders and $20 for K-3rd graders. There is a discount for the 4-12th graders before Oct. 31, so reach out to the clubs and Extension Office for more information.
