TOLEDO – Under an early morning gray sky, a few citizens had enough energy and gumption to venture out into the dreary morning and make it to the Monday, Sept. 28 Tama County Board of Supervisors meeting. While the public comment time had its own interesting moments, as a representative from ITC gave an update to the board, it didn’t last long, and soon the supervisors went into a brief exempt session. Nothing came of the exempt session, and the supervisors went on with the rest of their meeting.
The weekly roads report was rather brief as the roads department has been mostly hauling and cleaning items due to the rain.
A representative for Tama-Toledo Christian School went before the supervisors regarding the school’s taxes. The private school was made exempt from taxes for the 2026 year, but not 2025 due to clerical issues. As they did not file the paperwork before last year’s deadline, this led to the taxes coming due. The supervisors reviewed the issue and approved a full abatement.
Another slight mix up regarding taxes led to the supervisors approving a refund on a parcel of land.
The Zoning Commission gave their annual update on all the many things they are working on. The commission held approximately 18 meetings in the past year. The commission also thanked Zoning Commissioner Laura Wilson for all her hard work.
The supervisors approved a utility permit for Grundy County REC.
Claims totaling $128,893.14 were approved.
