LaVerne D. Herink, 84

LaVerne Dale Herink, 84, was born on September 9, 1930, in Clutier, the son of Emil and Eleanora (Mehulka) Herink. LaVerne was raised on the family farm and attended Traer High School. Following his graduation from Iowa State University in 1952, he moved to Geneva, NY, where he was employed at Cornell University as a seed technologist. LaVerne subsequently moved to Hyattsville, MD, and obtained a position at the U.S. Department of Agriculture in the seed regulatory branch, where he enforced the Federal Seed Act in support of farmers across America.

He married Eleanor Marie Conniff on December 29, 1958, and was devoted husband of over 54 years. He received a Juris doctorate degree from the George Washington University School of Law and was a partner at the law offices of Reeves, Herink, and Kenworthy, in Silver Spring, Maryland. LaVerne enjoyed spending time with his wife and four children, to include annual vacations back to Traer and other locations throughout the United States. He enjoyed gardening, golfing, fishing, reading, and watching the Washington Redskins. Following his retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife Eleanor and spending time with grandchildren.

LaVerne passed away on March 12, 2015, in York, Pennsylvania, and is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother Ernest. He is survived by his sister, Phyllis Magnussen, daughter Anne Oudemans, sons Paul, Mark, and Thomas, grandchildren Robert Oudemans, Zachary, Garrett, Tyler, and Gina Herink, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held in Traer, Iowa, at a later date.
