Emil D. Cufr, 88
Emil Dean Cufr, 88, died Sunday, April 5, 2015, at his home in Traer due to natural causes.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2015, at Ripley United Church of Christ in Traer with Rev. Bob Fread officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 9, at the church. Interment will be in Buckingham Cemetery, Traer.
Emil was born August 1, 1926, in Geneseo Township near Traer, Iowa, the son of Cyril and Agnes Vlasak Cufr. He attended Geneseo School through the 8th grade.
On August 13, 1947, Emil was united in marriage with Marjorie Kern at the Presbyterian Church in Traer. The couple lived in Traer, Conrad, Hudson and Masonville before moving back to farm outside Traer in 1967. They moved to town in 1972. Emil also worked at Rath and John Deere during the winter months, and he was later employed by Farmers Lumber of Traer, Farm Service of Traer, and Funk’s Seed of Traer and Belle Plaine, retiring in 1987. He also worked part-time for Tomlinson Farms. Following retirement, Emil enjoyed cracking walnuts, small woodworking projects and helping with family construction projects as long as he was able.
Emil was a member of Ripley United Church of Christ in Traer and was a past Deacon. He was also a 75-year member of ZCBJ Lodge, a Western Bohemian Fraternal Organization.
Emil is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marjorie, of Traer; six children: Dawn (Rick) Mason of Traer; Michael (Paula) Cufr of Milton, FL; Amy (Jon) Hancock of Cedar Rapids; Ernie (Julie) Cufr of Traer; Elaine Bangs of Cedar Rapids; and Jill (Kevin) Sempf of Cedar Rapids; one brother, Frank (Judy) Cufr of Beloit, WI; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Wesley Cufr; and two sisters, Alma Morrison and Sylvia Pinkston.
