Clyde “Bud” Milne, 92

Clyde “Bud” Milne, 92, passed away on April 1, 2015, at Broomfield Skilled Nursing Center in Broomfield, Colorado. Bud was born on July 3, 1922, to Clarence Milne and Gladys (Angel) Milne of Dysart, Iowa, and graduated from Dysart High School in 1941. Bud and LaVaun “Bonnie” (Raymond) Gilliatt of Garrison, Iowa, were married on September 2, 1948. They had two children, a son, Dennis Milne, and a step-daughter, Sherry (Gilliatt) Cross, from a previous marriage. The family farmed near Dysart, later farming near Vinton, Iowa. Bud and Bonnie retired in 1997 and moved to Vinton before relocating to Colorado in 2007.

Bud served in the United States Army Air Corps from December 1942 until March 1945. He served in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theaters as a B-24 tail gunner. He was a staff sergeant and completed 34 combat missions over enemy occupied continental Europe. On July 16, 1944, his airplane crashed on return from a combat mission where he suffered multiple injuries and was transferred to AAF Convalescent Hospital in Fort Logan, Colorado. He earned an honorable discharge in March 1945 and received numerous decorations and citations including Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Overseas Service Bar and Distinguished Unit Badge. Bud was a lifelong member of the Dysart American Legion.

Bud was a descendent of Andrew Milne and Jane (Stringer) Milne who homesteaded as early settlers in the Dysart area. He is preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie, his parents, infant twins Lois and Lola Milne, his sisters Marjorie Bauer, Mabel Sparks, Arlene Arp, and his brother James Milne.

He is survived by his son, Dennis Milne, of Dallas, Texas, and step-daughter, Sherry Cross (Jerome), of Longmont, Colorado, grandchildren Jerry Cross (Anne) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Sara Walcher (Warren) of Grand Junction, Colorado, and great grandchildren Cory Walcher, Dustin Walcher, Christopher Walcher and Elaine Cross.
