Richard L. “Dick” Chizek, 77

Richard Lee “Dick” Chizek, 77, of Toledo, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with Father Michael Mescher as celebrant. Interment will be held at the Buckingham Cemetery in Traer at 3:00 PM on Thursday following a luncheon at the church. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 from 5-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.

Richard was born on October 28, 1937, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Frank Joseph and LaVerna Katherine (Josifek) Chizek.

He graduated from Traer High School in 1956.

On November 14, 1959, he was united in marriage to Alice Dixon at Pleasant Hill Church in rural Toledo, Iowa and together they had three children, David, Rebecca and Julie.

Richard farmed and worked twenty five years at Lennox in Marshalltown, retiring in 2001. He previously drove school bus for the North Tama County Community School District and was working part time at Farm Service at the time of his death. Richard was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama, Knights of Columbus, Farm Bureau and Western Fraternal Life Association. He enjoyed tinkering and fixing things.

He is survived by his significant other, Cindy Kearney of Toledo; his wife, Alice Chizek of Traer; one son, David Welby (Lisa) Chizek of Toledo; one daughter, Julie Green of Traer; his grandchildren, Malynda (Julien) Chizek Frouard, Daniel (Angel) Chizek, Nicholas Chizek, Kelly Chizek, Jesse (Bryana) Chizek and Kacey (Stephen) Johnston; five great-grandchildren, Mason, Alexis, Hunter, Melody and Robert; and his half sister, Shirley (Ronald) DeBondt of Grinnell.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his stepmother, Elsie Kos Chizek; one daughter, Rebecca in 1982; and a stepbrother, Wayne Kos.
