Leo M. Kalvig, 81

Leo Merlin Kalvig, 81, of Mount Auburn, died Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton. He was born September 25, 1934 in Waterloo; the son of Alfred and Milda (Dahlstrom) Kalvig. He married Darlene Rose Burrier on September 26, 1954 in Charles City; she preceded him in death on June 24, 2015.

He worked as a manager in the Grocery Business for many years; he and his wife co-owned and operated the Short Stop convenience store in Traer and later operated the Brass Armadillo Antique Mall in Des Moines.

Survived by: two daughters, Connie (Steve) Graveman of Mt. Auburn and Nancy (Wade) Jacobs of Fort Dodge, IA; two sons, Douglas (Darlene) Kalvig of North Vernon, IN., Bryan (Michelle) Kalvig of Longmont, CO.; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one brother, Melvin Kalvig of Nashua and one sister, Adala Springmier of New Hampton.

Preceded in death by: his parents; his wife; one son, Timothy Kalvig; one grandson, Scott Harmsen; two brothers, Melford and Lester Kalvig and one sister, Gloria Inhen.

Memorial Services: will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at La Porte City Funeral Home with private family inurnment in Reinbeck Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour before the service.
