Mark R. Lynch, 74

Mark Russel Lynch, 74, of Gladbrook, IA died Sunday, May 21, 2017, at his residence. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 25, 2017, at Peace United Church of Christ, in Gladbrook. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at Peace United Church of Christ. Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery, in rural Gladbrook. Mark was born December 5, 1942 to Alva and Maymie (Hoing) Lynch, in Marshalltown. He was raised and lived his life on the family farm west of Gladbrook. Mark graduated from Gladbrook High School, in 1960. He engaged in farming with his father and brother, Darwin. Mark was united in marriage to Darbie Lorenz on September 19, 1964, at Peace United Church of Christ, in Gladbrook. Mark and Darbie farmed together raising crops, hogs, and eventually 4-H cattle for their two daughters. He retired in 2010.They enjoyed traveling to Arizona and Gulf Shores, Alabama. Every year since childhood you could find Mark camping at the Iowa State Fair, a tradition he passed on to his family. In his retirement, he enjoyed rides in his Corvette convertible with Darbie just like in the ’60s with his Chevy convertible that he purchased when he graduated from high school. Mark served on the board of directors and past president of the Gladbrook Jaycees, Peace united Church of Christ, Mid Iowa Cooperative and the Gladbrook School. One of Mark’s greatest joys was attending his daughters’ and granddaughters’ activities.

Mark is survived by his wife of 52 years, Darbie. Two daughters; Shelleen (Kenneth) Hatch, Sheresa (Tyler German) Lynch, two granddaughters; Shelton and Kerrigan Hatch, all of Gladbrook. Two sisters; Doris (Bill) Tessau of Gladbrook, Janice (Dale) Larsen of Cedar Falls, IA, and a sister in law, Donna Lynch of Meas, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Darwin.
