Evelyn Kay (Moses) Kersten, 73, of Dysart

Evelyn Kay (Moses) Kersten, age 73, passed away at the Sunnycrest Nursing Center in Dysart, Iowa on Tuesday, October 6, 2020. Evelyn Kay was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa on January 21, 1947, the daughter of Ernest and Edna Moses. She was the eighth child in a large, happy family. She attended Lincoln Elementary and graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1966.

Evelyn Kay worked at various jobs around Oskaloosa and later in the Belle Plaine and Keystone area. Although Evelyn Kay never had children of her own, she was a much beloved babysitter to many children in Oskaloosa and also to her nephews and nieces. They would look forward to her coming with her red bag of toys and things to do. She also worked in nursing homes and was a good caregiver to the residents. She enjoyed doing crafts, including crocheting, knitting and other types of handwork.

Evelyn Kay met and married Gary Kersten on August 21, 2004 and they made their home on the family farm near Dysart, Iowa. She enjoyed life on the farm, having a garden and participating in church activities. Evelyn Kay was a member of the Community of Christ Church and also Crosspointe Church in Dysart.

Evelyn Kay is survived by her husband, Gary Kersten; three sisters, Marjorie Tucker of University Park, Iowa; Linda (Forrest) Woods of Pulaski, Iowa; and Deborah (Mark) DeVries of Pella, Iowa; one brother, Richard (Ann) Gott of Carrollton, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Mary Gott of Beacon, Iowa and Joyce Moses of University Park, Iowa. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces.

Evelyn Kay was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Phillip Gott as an infant, Terry Gott, Raymond Gott and Ernest Moses; one sister, Martha Clark; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Gott; two brothers-in-law, Dennis Clark and Dale Tucker.

Graveside services will be held on October 9, 2020 in Dysart, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the Crosspointe Church in Dysart or Hospice Compassus. Condolences may be left at https://overtonfuneralhomes.com/
