Betty Jean Rund

Betty Jean Rund, daughter of Albert and Helen (Pecenka) Halupnick, was born, October 1, 1924 on the Family farm near Hudson, Iowa. She received her education in a one room school house.

On March 8, 1943 Betty married Paul Rund at Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church near Clutier. Betty began her life farming with Paul in the Clutier and later moved to rural Traer. In 1983 Paul and Betty retired from farming and moved to live in Traer. They enjoyed visiting with family and friends, playing cards and socializing.

Betty was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She found great joy attending family functions.

Throughout her life as a homemaker she provided delicious and plentiful meals. She kept the cookie jar filled with her famous chocolate chip cookies for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was known as “Grandma Betty” to many.

Betty was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Traer and a 50 year member of the Fraternal K.D. Lodge.

Betty passed away at the age of 96 on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at MercyOne Hospital in Waterloo. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul (1990) an infant son and daughter, brothers Bill and Fritz, sisters Madeline Rogers, Mildred Karkosh, and Phyllis Hill, a son in law Dennis Weaver, grandsons Chris and Michael Weaver. She is survived by her three daughters Joann Weaver, Elaine (Gordon) Joens and Connie (Jay) Owens. A sister Ramona Westergaard and her brother Jim (LaVetta) Halupnick. Five grandchildren Nathaniel (Kristel) Joens, Elizabeth (Chris) Bernard, Paula (Jeremy) Kubovec, Jonathan (Katie) Owens and Mallory (Kyle) Hinz along with Courtney Weaver widow of Michael. 13 great grandchildren; Luke and Grant Weaver, Lillian, Evelyn, and Oliver Joens; Miles and Walden Bernard, Tyler and Abby Kubovec; Ruth, Reed, Russell and Rosemary Owens.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 7, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Traer, with burial in St. Paul Catholic Cemetery, Traer. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, January 6, at Overton Family Funeral Home in Traer.
