James Powell

James (Jim) C. Powell of Colorado Springs, CO died on January 21, 2021.

Jim was born March 14, 1941 to Lynn and Elsie (Morrow) Powell of Traer, Iowa.

Growing up on a farm, Jim gained knowledge and skills that served him well his entire life. At Traer High School, Jim was a member of the wrestling team. In 1958, Jim was the A.A.U. 103-pound state champion. After high school, Jim worked for the phone company in Iowa, traveling to various towns to install phone equipment. After service in the army at Fort Carson, Jim transferred to the phone company in Denver, Colorado. While in Denver, Jim became involved in the Kiwanis service club. He served a year as president for his local club. He left the phone company to be involved in real estate as a real estate broker, and to build duplex and 4-plex housing. A work opportunity took Jim to San Diego, CA where he met his future wife, Pam. Jim and Pam returned to Colorado in 1991. In his later years, he worked in real estate, promotional advertising, and owned a retail tool store.

Jim loved all forms of auto racing, especially open wheel racing. He had joined the SCCA Denver club to race his car in the regional SCCA events. Jim enjoyed camping and fishing. He and Pam traveled in their RV to camp and fish at the various lakes and reservoirs in the western states. Jim had a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor. Jim and his laughter will be greatly missed.

Jim is survived by his wife, Pam, his cousin Jane Bell of Phoenix. AZ, and his sister Barbara Sherman (husband Robert) and a nephew of Minneapolis, MN. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
