John Felts

John F. Felts, 87, of Traer died Wednesday, March 10 at Grundy County Memorial Hospital.
He was born February 23, 1934 in Monticello, Illinois, son of James K. “J.K.” and Mary Lou Summers Felts. He married Janet F. Jennings May 30, 1956 in Monticello Illinois, 64 years married.
John graduated from Monticello High School, graduated from the University of Illinois, and served in the United States Army. He was employed with the Star Clipper of Tama County for 15 years and was a Tama County Magistrate for more than 25 years. John was a strong supporter of Traer’s ambulance service, helping to get it going and a longtime volunteer.
Survivors include: wife, Janet; three daughters, Jamie (RD) Porter of Columbus Missouri, Janeal (Stanley) Penning of Hubbard, Janan (Nathan) Hicks of Des Moines; six grandchildren, Shauna Harrison, Heather Direnzo, Danielle Cook, Austin Lyons, Kassidy Chen, Reese Evelyn Hicks; ten great-grandchildren; two brothers, Joe (Janet) Felts of Georgia and Carl (Jerry) Felts of Oregon.
Preceded by: his parents, and a brother, Jim Felts.
John was an honest man of many words, always ready for a conversation, and a story to share. He enjoyed historical books which inspired family trips and always stopped for a museum or historical site. He loved his daughters, who were in every activity and sport, never missing one, he often referred to them as his boy-girls. He would often be found at events taking photos for himself or for the Star Clipper never missing a thing. John made life exciting and fun, he will be missed dearly.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 15 at Traer United Methodist Church, followed by burial at Buckingham Cemetery, Traer, where full military rites will be provided by the United States Army and the Traer American Legion. Visitation will be one hour before services at the church, 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
