Alice Lass

Alice Ann Lass, 91, of Traer, died Sunday, April 11, at home surrounded by family. She was born July 27, 1929 in Traer Iowa, daughter of Charles and Esther Svoboda Kutin.

She graduated in 1947 from Traer High School. Alice was a girl scout for six years and a girl scout leader for four years. She was baptized, confirmed and taught Sunday School for eight years at Ripley’s Church Traer. She married Frederick Lass at Ripley Church February 24, 1965.They later became long time members at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. The family took a trip to Germany in 1974 and moved to Traer in 1976. Fritz and Alice farmed together west or Traer, retiring in 1974. Later on she started working outside the home doing cleaning for local businesses and people. She retired in 1989 after Fritz was killed in a car accident.

Alice had many hobbies including gardening and canning until health problems forced her to quit. Quilting and embroidering was her 2nd passion. “Grand parenting” was her life when her grandchildren were growing up. She cherished having talks with them, always proud of their accomplishments.

Survivors include: two daughters, Julianna Sloyer of Traer and Karensue (Paul) Burroughs of Traer; two grandchildren, Marisa (Tristan) Ingalls and Dalton Sloyer; two step grandchildren, Jason and Jaime Burroughs; four step great grandchildren, Austin, Brittany, Kassidy and Ava Burroughs; One sister, Betty (Don) Meggers of Hudson; many nieces and nephews.

Proceeded by: her parents and parents-in-laws; her husband, Fritz; two brothers, Lester, (passed away in 1929) and Victor, (passed away in 2011); one sister, Ida, (passed away in 1932).

Alice will be deeply missed by family and special friends.

A mother’s hug lasts long after she lets go.

Services will be Tuesday, April 13, at 10:30 a.m. at the Overton Funeral Home Traer. Visitation will be one hour before service at the funeral home. Burial in Dysart Cemetery following service. Masks will be required for visitation and /or service.
