Donna Fleming

Donna Mae Fleming was born on April 12, 1931, south of Garrison, to Christian and Marcella (Burkey) Grimm. She attended school in Garrison and later in Dysart, graduating in the class of 1948. On November 28, 1948, she was united in marriage to James W. Fleming at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Donna and Jim farmed in the Garrison/Dysart area until they retired and moved to Dysart in September of 1998. She was a homemaker and farmer’s wife and loved spending time with her family, including grandchildren and great grandchildren. Donna enjoyed gardening, both vegetable and flower, crafts, and writing poems. She especially enjoyed the family softball games, fishing at the family pond, and picnics with family and friends. Donna passed away at the age of 90 on July 15, 2021, at Sunnycrest Nursing Center in Dysart. She is survived by 3 children, Joe (JoAnn) Fleming of Vinton, James A. (Debra) Fleming of Garrison, and Jean Karpisek of Dysart; a sister, Joyce Andorf of Dysart; 9 grandchildren, Amy (Dave) Wrobel of Ankeny, Jason (Michelle) Merchant of Pennsylvania, Courtney (Shelly) Merchant of Georgia, Brian, Ryan (Paula), and Chad Karpisek all of Dysart, Kelli (Doug) Knoop of Dysart, Sherri (Matt)Lampe of Garrison, and Scott (Louise) Fleming of Mt. Auburn; 14 great grandchildren, Cerena (Brett) Stinogel, Isaac and Jacob (Cassidy) Merchant, Kylie (Grant) Mullen, Lillie Wrobel, Matthew and Allison Merchant, Avery and Keegan Knoop, Christopher, Alana, Katelyn, and Madison Fleming, and Elizabeth Lampe. Donna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son in infancy, John Lester; a daughter, Judy Merchant; a daughter-in-law, Mary Jeanne Fleming; a son-in-law, Larry Karpisek; 2 sisters, Geraldine Williams and Darlys Oberheu; and two great granddaughters in infancy, Ellie Mae Wrobel and Emma June Lampe. There will be a visitation on Monday, July 19, 2021, from 9 to 10 AM, at the Overton Funeral Home in Dysart. Burial will follow at Dysart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Dysart Fire Department or the Dysart Ambulance.
