Alan James Breja, 54, of Dubuque and formerly of Vining, passed away Monday, September 6, 2021 at his home in Dubuque unexpectedly following a sudden illness. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Deacon Joe Behounek officiating. Interment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in Clutier. Visitation will be held Friday, September 10, 2021 from 5-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home.
Alan was born on April 24, 1967, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of James E. and Martha (Kriz) Breja.
He graduated from South Tama High School in 1985.
Alan worked in construction and roofing. He also worked at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown and other nursing homes. Alan loved anything to do with nature, hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting or just a walk in the timber. He loved to garden and enjoyed cooking on the grill.
Survivors include one son, Hunter Breja of Cedar Rapids; his mother, Martha Breja of Vining; siblings, Sharon (Randy) Hosek of Elberon, Doreen Vesely of Elberon, and Ronald Breja of Vining; nephews and niece, Nathan Hosek, Lisa (C.J.) Bubon, Nick Hosek (Brenna Hamilton), Derek Vesely, and Jeremy Vesely; great nieces and nephews, Shayla, Ellie, and Brody Hosek, and Stella and Hazel Bubon.
He was preceded in death by his father; and brother-in-law, Jeff Vesely.
