Gary Lynn Konicek

Gary Lynn Konicek, age 74, passed away on Tuesday, November 30th, 2021, in his home.  Gary was born on November 18th, 1947, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Alvin and Gladys (Boldt) Konicek. Gary grew up in Traer, Iowa, and was a North Tama Graduate in 1966. After high school, Gary attended Ellsworth Community College. Gary was a great all-around athlete through his high school career and went on to pitch in college.  He joined the Air Force in 1968, and served for 6 years. On May 21st, 1977, Gary married Kaye Hite. He and Kaye lived in Traer for 7 years, prior to moving to Naples, Florida, where they resided for 35 years. Gary worked as a plumbing inspector for Collier County in Florida for 15 years. After retirement, Gary and Kaye moved back to Traer, where they have resided for the last 2 years.

Gary was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.  He loved old westerns, fishing, golfing, bowling, but he mostly loved having fun and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Kaye of Traer; two daughters, Darcy (Brad) Rund of Traer, IA and Kerri (Danny) Hogan of Cape Coral, FL; 5 grandchildren, Ashton (Chris) Wilson, Morgan (Mike) Ellis, Allie Rund, Cody Jensen and Lucas Jensen; 5 great grandchildren, Haydn, Myer and Rhet Wilson, Briar and Haisley Ellis and expecting a 6th in 2022; one brother and two sisters, Craig (Roxie) Konicek of Traer, Nancy Temple of Wellman, and Connie (Doug) Anderson of Voorhies; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents and parents-in-law.

A celebration of life and luncheon will be held on Sunday, December 5th from 12pm-3pm at the Traer Golf and Country Club. Memorials may be directed to the family.
