Herman Louis Debner

Herman Louis Debner passed away suddenly at home in Baltimore, MD on December 31, 2021 at the age of 82.

Herman is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Ellen Frances Debner (nee Schmidt). He is lovingly remember by his children James Debner (Barbara), Rebecca Lindsey (Henry) and Mark Debner; his grandchildren Joshua Debner (Samantha), Abigail Walton (Derek), Rachel Debner, Andrew Debner, and Sarah Debner; his great grandchildren Declan Debner, Gavin Walton, Megan Hicks, and Ariana Hicks; niece Joan Hayes (Floyd); nephew Joe Scratch.

He is predeceased by his son Thomas Paul Debner; His parents John Frederick Debner and Laura Dorothea Debner (nee Hummel); His sister Dorothea Debner.

Herman was Born July 3, 1939 to John Frederick Debner and Laura Dorothea Hummel Debner in Waverly Iowa. He graduated from East High School in Waterloo, Iowa, in 1957. Shortly after he enlisted and served in the Air Force and graduated from Gates Business College. He married Ellen Schmidt on September 24, 1961.

Herman lived most of his life in Traer, Iowa, following his passion as owner of Debner’s Body Shop accomplished in all aspects of autobody repair. Herman was the first Tama County Sheriff Reserve Officer, often working nights supporting the local deputies. While a reserve officer, he was asked to assist with protection details for many famous individuals, once working alongside the secret service guarding then President Ronald Regan. Herman was an avid photographer and graduated from Hawkeye Institute of Technology with a degree in photography. He worked as a photographer for a protection detail for major companies. Herman was also a truck driver, delivering trucks throughout the United States. Herman was an avid woodworker, turning and crafting many hand-made wood crafts for friends and family. He was creative throughout his life, fixing anything and making items by his own innovation.

A memorial service is schedule for 10:30 AM on January 15, 2021, at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Baltimore, MD. If desired, the family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials are given in his memory to Epiphany Lutheran Church, 4301 Raspe Ave, Baltimore, MD 21206.
