Donald Fred Valenta, 90

Donald Fred Valenta, 90, of Cedar Rapids formerly of Traer, died Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at UnityPoint St. Luke’s Hospital. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 8, 2022, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Traer by Fr. Anthony Nketiah. Burial: St. Paul Catholic Cemetery, Traer. Friends may visit with the family after 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at the church. The family has requested those in attendance to please wear a mask. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.

Don is survived by his wife of nearly 71 years, Maxine; daughter, Jean (Edward) Lillis, of Cedar Rapids; son, Lee (Margaret) Valenta, of Sarasota, FL; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and sister, Carolyn Gerleman, of Tucson, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Valenta; brothers, Robert Valenta, Richard Valenta; and sister, Susan Howard.

Donald was born on October 10, 1931, on the family farm in rural Tama County, son of Fred and Stella Podhajsky Valenta. He married Maxine Crist on October 20, 1951, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Waterloo.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for a charity of their choice.
