Stanley Frank Hladik, 96

Stanley Frank Hladik, 96, of Clive and formerly of Traer, died on February 27, 2023, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.

He was born on September 26, 1926, in Traer, the son of Frank and Harriet (Cufr) Hladik. Stanley graduated from Traer Public School. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Force at the age of 17. He served in several locations in the US and the Erding Air Base near Munich, his assignment to the Army of Occupation in Germany.

Stanley was united in marriage to Phyllis Eichorst on February 10, 1948. They are the proud parents of Barbara Jean Halupnick and Debra Diane Halupnick.

Phyllis and Stan owned Frank’s Shoe Store in Traer for many years, Stan being the third generation of the Hladik family to be in the shoe business. He was an American Legion member and past commander. He was also a board member and president of several other groups in Traer. Stan was a city council member for 16 years, served on the Traer fire department for over 60 years, and was very proud to be a board member for 40 years and president of the board of directors for 26 at the Traer Nursing Home. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed being outdoors, gardening and reading.

His family was his life. Stan was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; 2 daughters, Barbara (Mike) Halupnick and Debra (Dennis) Halupnick; 6 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Services for Stanley was at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Traer, IA. Visitation was from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2023, at Overton Funeral Home in Traer, IA, with Striking of the Four 5s at 4 p.m. Burial was in St. Paul Catholic Church Cemetery in Traer with full Military Rites conducted by the Traer American Legion. Memorials may be directed to the family.
